For my typography assignment, I have taken an allegedly fashionable, spiked-heel shoe and used text to show a contrasting view of the shoe. At the bottom of the page, I have the words “fashion” repeated several times in script with hearts. The repetition of the words works ironically with the word “bunion” which has been worked into the shoe. I chose the script with the hearts to accompany the word “fashion” in an attempt to trivialize the feminity of the high-heeled shoe, and the word “bunion” works in conjunction with the word “fashion” because bunions are considerably unattractive, crippling, and de-feminizes the shoe that is perceived as being very feminine and attractive. I have placed the word “fashion” towards the bottom of the screen because I wanted the idea of the shoe being fashionable to be more distant than the shoe, to show that the perception of the shoe being attractive is not as close as the reality; that the shoe is painful. I wanted to be able to enhance the idea that what is fashionable does not alwasys coincide with the reality of the situation, and I thought that the image worked effectively to put a humorous spin on the concept.
