The Environmental Interests blog is leading to some fascinating student posts. Dana M. Kreyenhagen’s post Our forests for a pair of Chopsticks drew me into the class discussion. The post talks about Easter Island’s deforestation, and the outrage towards it. However, the post than takes a turn to reminding us that we aren’t so innocent either. The fancy hardwood floors and cabinets we have also came from rainforest’s that were destroyed.
However the reason why this post appealed to me is because the author showed us that something really small, such as a pair of wooden chopsticks, can also have a negative effect on the environment. Especially when they are produced in massive quantities. For that, I will use the image she had in her post.
I guess I am trying to show that you don’t have to be an environmentalist to have some concern for the environment, Earth, and our home.
